abstract = "O gerenciamento do uso sustent{\'a}vel dos recursos
h{\'{\i}}dricos depende fundamentalmente de
representatividade espacial limitada. Essa caracter{\'{\i}}stica
ambientais nessas {\'a}guas.
duas condi{\c{c}}{\~o}es ambientais distintas.
{\'o}pticas inerentes. Essas propriedades s{\~a}o aquelas que
traduzem as caracter{\'{\i}}sticas singulares do meio em estudo.
acurada. ABSTRACT: The management of the sustainable use of water
resources depends crucially on the information about water quality
and how it changes over time. Traditionally, the study of water
quality in the systems is based on the collection and analysis of
a limited number of samples with limited spatial representation.
This inherent characteristic of the sampling process becomes
critical in the case of large reservoirs. To solve this lack of
spatial representation, remote sensing can be a powerful tool in
the study of the aquatic environment by capturing, through the
spectral response, the variability of optically active components
present in water. The study of ocean color has improved
significantly in the last decades, the challenge now lies in the
remote sensing of inland waters, due to the complexity of the
environmental processes existing in these waters. Set in this
context, this research aimed to contribute to the advance of the
studies on the interaction of the light with continental aquatic
systems. Two field campaigns were carried out for the bio-optical
characterization of Funil´s reservoir (44\$º\$55´ Latitude-W;
21\$º\$05´ Longitude-S) in two different environmental
conditions. This stage of the study meant to demonstrate the
complexity of the environment by recording the spectral
interactions of the light with the medium. As a second step, it
was still tested the applicability of an estimation model for
Remote Sensing Reflectance (R\$_{rs}\$) using inherent optical
properties. These properties are those which reflect the unique
characteristics of the medium under study. The goal here was to
evaluate if the chosen model, developed by Gordon et al. (1988),
originally proposed for Case 1 ocean waters, whose dominant
component on the color of the water is the phytoplankton, and the
other components covary with it; could be applied in Case 2
complex waters, that has not a unique dominant component. This is
important because the ability to estimate this parameter through
the use of inherent optical properties will allow us, in the
future, to achieve these properties from the R\$_{rs}\$ recorded
by an orbiting satellite. Therefore, advances in the development
and parameterization of robust models to simulate R\$_{rs}\$,
will allow a reliable monitoring of water quality by satellites.
As a result, this research allowed us to visualize how
environmental conditions affect the interactions of the light with
the medium. Furthermore, it was also possible to realize that the
estimation model chosen for R\$_{rs}\$ can be used in complex
waters as those in the study area as long as the inherent optical
properties were accurately determined.",
